The charge was lead by Stephenie Meyer, who sold more books in 2008 than any other author (22 million). Just in case you didn't know, Meyer wrote the Twilight series about a romance between a girl and a vampire.
Other highlights in publishing for 2008:
- Sales of books for "young adults" were up 45% over 2007, thanks primarily to Stephenie Meyer, J.K. Rowling's The Tales of Beedle the Bard, and Christopher Paolini's Brisingr.
- New movies helped boost the sale of books like John Grogan's Marley & Me.
- The Oprah effect continued as her two selections for her book club became bestsellers: Eckhart Tolle's A New Earth, and David Wroblewski's The Story of Edgar Sawtelle
- The ever popular and prolific James Patterson had eight novels in the top 100
