Books Into Movies

Here are just a few of the films based on books that are slated to open during the first few months of 2010:

The Lovely Bones is based on Alice Sebold's 2002 novel about a murdered teen who watches her family from Heaven. Directed by Peter Jackson, the film stars Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, and Saoirse Ronan as protagonist Susie Salmon.

Dear John is an adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' 2006 romantic drama about a soldier who pines for a college student after he goes back into combat. Directed by Lasse Hallstrom, the film stars Channing Tatum, Amanda Seyfried, and Henry Thomas.


Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
is based on the New York Times bestselling 2005 titular first book in the adventure-fantasy YA series by Rick Riordan. Directed by Chris Columbus, the film stars Kevin McKidds, Pierce Brosnan, Uma Thurman, Rosario Dawson, Catherine Keener, and Logan Lerman as young protagonist Percy Jackson.

Shutter Island is based on Dennis Lehane's 2003 suspense novel set in a psychiatric hospital in the 1950s. Directed by Martin Scorsese, the film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Kingsley, and Michelle Williams.

The Last Song is adapted from Nicholas Sparks' 2009 romantic drama novel. Marking director Julie Anne Robinson's feature film debut, the film stars Miley Cyrus, Greg Kinnear, Bobby Coleman, and Liam Hemsworth.
